Rhetorical Situation

Rhetoric is the study of effective language use, or, as defined by Aristotle, “the art of observing the available means of persuasion.”  Digital media give us many more ways in which to persuade an audience; however, we need to analyze how the medium works and who the audience is before we attempt to create our own arguments.  Transmedia argumentation adds another level of difficulty, as we need to think about the role each medium plays in developing our overall argument.

An illustration of a laptop has a series of small circles floating above it, each featuring a symbolic representation of a different medium such as video, audio, social media, text.
